Harrow Fair

No strangers to the music scene, Miranda Mulholland (Great Lake Swimmers, Belle Starr) and Andrew Penner (Sunparlour Players) are Harrow Fair.  The duo has created a musical framework combining their considerable strengths as singers and instrumentalists and are exploring songwriting enhanced by heavy kick drum, rootsy guitar and scorching fiddle.

One part stomping songs that echo early country and rock n roll, the other part gritty ballads that sound sweet and haunted, this duo’s evocative and rapidly expanding collection of songs is utterly foreign, oddly familiar and deeply gratifying.

“When Miranda Mulholland and Andrew Penner create music together, something delightful happens. Their combined experiences allow Mulholland and Penner to show off fantastically executed string work with both the fiddle and guitar. Call to Arms, the Canadian duo’s record debut, spoons out doses of rock, roots, Southern charm and just about everything else along the way.”

Tim Bradford and the Bandits

Tim Bradford is a roots artist and songwriter based in Toronto, ON.  Born in Northern Ontario, he’s lived heavily in places west of Saskatchewan, writing and traveling all across Canada and many countries south.  He performs original music—usually with his spectacular band The Bandits—and interprets others’ with a country bent that leans to the fringes. Mixing styles of Bakersfield, Rockabilly, Appalachian old-time and early blues with modern themes, Tim Bradford’s music is earnest, sometimes tragic and poignantly romantic.

“Bradford’s pleasant croon is relatable for its endearing amicability and optimistic tone — a remarkable ability to sing the sad songs in a coltish fashion. Rural metaphors and sly storytelling make Bradford seem like a close friend confiding in you about the unfortunate events of the night before.”~ Exclaim! Magazine, “Drinking Alone” (8/10)
