This year we are growing a lot of different varieties of tomatoes.  Too much maybe?  Maybe.  I have trouble narrowing the varieties down.  And the mix of colours, shapes and sizes is exciting.  Most of the varieties I’ve grown before at least once, but there are 4 or 5 that are new to me entirely.  That’s also exciting.

A few years (I think maybe 2006) ago I did a seed exchange and got 5-6 odd heirloom seed packs.  One of them, “Chocolate Stripe” I never got around to planting.  Well this year I pulled the seed out and gave it a try.  Out of a lot of seed planted, one germinated and made it into the hoophouse.  Below is the result.  I haven’t tasted it yet, but it’s one of the coolest looking tomatoes I’ve grown.  This first ripe one went into someone’s CSA share last week.  CSA member:  if you are reading this, how did it taste?
