Heads (left), Leaf (right)
We’ve been growing a lot of lettuce. One of those crops we are trying to be big into this year for both our CSA and at the markets. It’s a fast crop and doesn’t stay nice for long so we have to plant it every couple weeks. Here you see a bed of head lettuces beside a bed of leaf lettuce. At the market people love the washed bags of leaf lettuce, even though I tell them the head lettuce is generally a better deal and you get thicker more crisp leaves. The convenience of ready to eat seems to generally win out though. The variety and shapes of lettuce truly create a kaleidoscope.
