I’ve had a few questions from CSA members about whether the weather, being cold as it has been, is delaying the start of the season. Also some other questions, like “when do I start getting stuff?”, “You didn’t just swindle me out of a $200 deposit did you?”. Ok, I probably just made up the last one in my head but I thought I would give a field and harvest update.
We have basically planted everything on schedule so far. The cold weather is likely delaying some of the crops planted outside, but not by a huge amount… maybe 2 weeks but I had planted many of these crops for market harvest anyway by the end of May so probably still no impact on the CSA schedule. I’m guessing we will have our first CSA box on June 10th. What I’m really waiting on for the first CSA share is this:
When the broccoli in the large hoophouse is ready, we’ll definitely have a CSA share. It looks to be about 3 weeks away, maybe 4. What else will be in the first box? Well, it will be quite green and probably light compared to boxes you’ll get by the end of June. It will also include:

Lettuce

Spinach

spring onions

Radishes

Baby Kale

Rhubarb

Peas

Carrots

beets

Hoophouse Cucumbers

Hoophouse Tomatoes

Strawberries (maybe?)
