OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAYesterday the conditions were good so the onions are going in.  We prepared these beds last week by adding compost, tilling and then rolling out biodegradable mulch.  The mulch is supposed to help us not have to weed as much.  It was a bit of trial and error figuring out the best way to punch holes and drop transplants in.  The first method used a “stand and plant” seeder which did work but left holes bigger than needed and slowed things as the transplants were sticking in the tube.  The second method is what we stuck with.  One person punches small holes with an old, sharpened broom handle while another drops the seedlings in.  Looks really good once they are in!
