Veggie Box Sign-up – Fall Program now open!

The fall CSA program will run for 9 weeks from October 24th (25th) to December 19th (20th), with the last week being a double share.

Pick-ups will be held on-site at Common Ground Farm on Friday afternoons (5-8pm), or at the Western Fair Market on Saturdays (8-3).

The cost is $300 for the fall season. (Market pick-ups add $30 to total $330). This works out to about $33/week, but the size, value, and crops included in the share each week will fluctuate with the season.
Each week there will be between 8-11 items in the share and may include: spinach, salad mix, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi, carrot, parsnip, leek, garlic, sweet potato, winter squash, scallion, beet, turnip, radish, collard greens.
For sign-up confirmation, please email Meghan Brandenburg at meghan.brandenburg@gmail.com, and bring a deposit cheque of $100 (made out to Meghan) to Common Ground Farm on CSA pickup Tuesday or to Chris at the Western Fair Market on Saturday.  Balance will be due on the first pickup day.
Make your cheque payable to “Meghan Brandenburg”, or pay with cash. Deposits are accepted in person at the farm (please call ahead!). See Map and Address.  Please also include your phone number and email address.

 Frequently Asked Questions

(let me know if you have a question not answered here):

How big are the shares?

It will depend on the week, but generally they will be fairly large and be enough for a family of 4 who love vegetables and cook at home a fair amount.  This year we will not be doing small shares, but anyone who thinks these shares will be too big are welcome to split with another person by either going every other week or splitting each weekly share.  Contact us if you want to do this and we can even try to match you up with someone else interested in doing this.  If you look at our Facebook page, you can get a general sense of the size of a share

When can I pick up my CSA shares?

Every Friday afternoon during the CSA season we will setup a pickup station on the farm and you will come between 5 pm and 8 pm and pick up your box of vegetables.  You will have a set amount of a selection of vegetables in your box.  For some choices you may be able to take more or trade for items you don’t want.

When will my shares be delivered?

We will not be offering delivery for the fall program.

If you live in London and would like to pick up at Western Fair market, the pickup will be during the market hours on Saturdays.

Will the vegetables be organic?

Yes, we follow all organic practices.  We are not (yet) certified but plan to be in the near future.

What else does joining the CSA get me?

This is the best part!  We hope CSA members see this as an opportunity to connect with where their food comes from.  We will have extras available exclusively (or at least primarily) for CSA members.  Here is a sampling:

  • CSA community:  Members will have a chance to connect with the farmers and other members and form a community.  We will have socializing events like pot-lucks and such throughout the season to help get to know each other and give members a chance to see the farm close up.
  • Extra products for sale on the farm:  eggs from free-range, organically fed chickens, maple syrup from our farm and seasonal products like specialty pumpkins
  • Extras available from time to time:  pick your own raspberries and maybe strawberries (in small amounts for 2014) as well as opportunities for larger shares of labour intensive crops (e.g. green beans)

What vegetables will you grow for the shares?

I’ve divided the crops roughly into 3 categories but in reality it’s not quite so neat.  It will depend when things are ready (so for example you won’t get sweet potatoes in June!) but here is the breakdown:

Major Veggies (almost every week when ready): carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach (and other greens), peppers, zucchini, broccoli, beans, potatoes

Minor Veggies (every couple weeks when ready): peas, onions, garlic, beets, radishes, herbs (dill, basil, parsley, cilantro), cabbage, kohlrabi, squash, cauliflower, kale, brussel sprouts, sweet potato

Occasionals (once or twice during the season or free choice on pickup day): Chinese cabbage, eggplant, fennel, pumpkin, swiss chard, celeriac, melon, watermelon, tomatillo, ground cherry, strawberries, raspberries, other experimental crops, things I’ve forgotten on this list
