I have been doing a lot of work on the garage.  This is not the ideal season for this kind of work.  But then again, this is when I tend to have time for this kind of project so I guess maybe this is the season then?  Anyway, the weather has been quite cold.

I haven’t built anything even close to this complex before.  It is definitely empowering though to learn how to do it yourself though!

We moved our chickens finally last week into the greenhouse for the winter.  In the spring summer and fall they spend all their time in a mobile coop surrounded by movable temporary electric fence.  This seems to make a big difference in egg quality (compared to a stationary coop where the ground turns to bare dirt).  I also really like the ability to keep them somewhat contained yet move them to fresh pasture each week.

Now I have a portable fence around the greenhouse to keep out predators and a temporary strawbale coop inside the greenhouse.  This makes for some pretty pampered chickens.  It has been above freezing in the greenhouse during the day even on the coldest of the last few days.  The other benefit is that in the 2 months or so that they spend in the greenhouse, they should have all the weeds I let get away from me this past summer cleaned up.
